DAK Americas is a subsidiary of Alpek S.A. de C.V., a business group of Alfa S.A.B, de C.V., one of Mexico’s largest global industrial companies. It is a part of the Alpek Polyester family of businesses that has 5 business units and operates 15 production facilities across 6 countries in the Americas and the United Kingdom. DAK employs over 3000 full-service employees, as well as an array of contractual partners.

Strategic positioning in relevant markets, strong corporate financials, state-of-the-art technology and core strategies focused on sustainability, growth, trade leadership, low-cost production and innovation have made DAK Americas a leading company in the Americas.

It acquired the assets of Perpetual Recycling Solutions LLC in Richmond, IN on Feb. 1, 2019. The recycling operations have an annual capacity of 45K tons/year of high-quality recycled PET flake.  The operations will operate as DAK Americas Richmond Site. In 2020, PET Resin production facilities in Wilton, United Kingdom, formerly operated as Lotte Chemical UK Ltd., were acquired and joined in with the Alpek Polyester family of businesses. The new business will operate as the legal entity of “Alpek Polyester UK Ltd.”

Internally, this is an integrated business unit within DAK Americas and is supplied with its most significant raw material, terephthalic acid by DAK's Monomers business unit.

The Laser+® family of PET Resins offers solutions for manufacturing the highest quality containers by offering the high quality, most consistent, innovative resins available today.

 

Fibers



The Polyester Staple Fibers business is the foundation on which DAK Americas was initially built and remains one of its main business units.  For well over 30 years, this business has been delivering innovative new products to the marketplace and continues leading the technology development for many of today’s specialty and preferred performance products that consumers demand. The history of this business includes the creation of the Polyester Staple Fibers business in the U.S. by E.I. DuPont in the early 1970s and joint ventures in Mexico with Alfa S.A.B de C.V. (DAK Americas' parent company) in the mid-1970s.  All of these business units combined to create Dupont-Akra Polyester in 1999 which became a part of DAK Americas in 2001, along with the creation of DAK's Monomers and Resins business units.

 

Specialty Polymers



In March 2009 DAK Americas created a new Special Polymers business unit of differentiated polymers for unique applications and end uses. This new business unit of DAK Americas builds on DAK's expertise, synergy, and core competence in polyester-based products, polymers, and technologies.Furthermore, DAK Americas has acquired the manufacturing technologies for a select group of 2GT-based polyester resin products formerly produced under DuPont's Crystar brand.

 

Monomers



DAK Americas' Monomers business is the foundation for all of DAK Americas' businesses. The Monomers business is key to the success of DAK as a whole, as it provides Terephthalic Acid (TPA), the main raw material used for both the Polyester Staple Fiber business and the PET Container Resin business. In addition to internal captive use, it also maintains Merchant Sales to many external customers. Together with Alpek, its parent company, the combined capacities of both companies represent the world's second-largest producer of TPA.
