Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) is the most successful producer of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) - a basic plastic polymer that is derived from oil and natural gas. The company’s main facilities consist of an Ethylene plant (cracker) with a production capacity of 840-kilo tonnes per annum (ktpa), 3 LDPE plants with a total combined production capacity of over 780 ktpa and a Sulfur plant with a production capacity of 70 ktpa. The shareholders are Industries Qatar (80%) and TotalEnergies Petrochemicals France (20%).
In addition to its core business, QAPCO has invested directly and indirectly in 4 associated ventures that contribute to the development of Qatar’s downstream petrochemicals sector. They are also involved in a number of joint ventures (JVs), including Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC), Qatofin Company Limited, and Qatar Plastic Products Company (QPPC), thereby, producing various petrochemical products and making QAPCO a regional petrochemical powerhouse.
QAPCO’s food-grade polymers comply with EU and US FDA standards related to food packaging safety.
