Named Aramco (the Arabia American Oil Company) in 1940-the 50s, their crude oil production hit 500,000 barrels per day in 1949. In 1988, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) was officially established — a new company to take over all the responsibilities of Aramco. The following year, Saudi Aramco began its transformation from an oil-producing and exporting company to an integrated petroleum enterprise, with the formation of Star Enterprises in 1989 — a joint venture with Texaco in the United States. 

As of 2020, it is one of the largest companies in the world by revenue. It has both the world's second-largest proven crude oil reserves, at more than 270 billion barrels (43 billion cubic metres) and the largest daily oil production of all oil-producing companies. It operates the world's largest single hydrocarbon network, the Master Gas System. In the 2020 Forbes Global 2000, Saudi Aramco was ranked as the 5th-largest public company in the world.

SABIC reported $45.1 billion in revenues and $5.7 billion in profits for the 2018-2019 FY, ranking it in fourth place among chemical companies.

Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company is the largest and only producer of PET / PTA in the country. Around 1182 people work in different specialties directly, formally, and contractually; also, 1189 people are working in contracting companies.It is the producer of two important products, polyester yarn (POY) and polyester fiber (STAPLE).

It has 3 manufacturing units of which the chemical unit consists of PTA1 and PTA2 plants. Their feeds are Para-xylene and Acetic Acid and annually produce 700,000 tons of Pure Terephthalic Acid (PTA). The products of this unit are used as lubricants in the preparation of industrial adhesives and the production of Polyethylene Terephthalate.

The Polymeric unit of this complex consists of two sections; PET1 and PET2. PET2 has four sections or POLY and PET2 has three sections or POLY. The feed of this complex is PTA and Mono Ethylene Glycol and produces 336 thousand tons per year of bottle grade and 551 thousand tons per year of fibre grade.

The textile unit of this company has two sections for Polyester Fibers STAPLE and Polyester Fibers thread POY. The feed of both sections is a molten polymer, and the production capacity of each is 66 thousand tons per year.
